You dream of tranquil, happy days, respectful, self-motivated kids, a gleaming, well-ordered home…but you’re struggling to know practically how to get there. Your daily life is crazier than it is in your dreams. Messier. Louder. Not what you pictured when you crafted those birth announcements so long ago.
You don’t want to have to flee from your children every time you get a phone call, or hire a babysitter just to regain a little sanity. You don’t want to have to gear up for battle before you sit down for supper. You want to make it through the grocery store without a you-tube worthy melt-down. You are tired of drowning in a sea of Fisher Price.
You don’t want to just survive your kids, you want to really enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime journey.
Sometimes, in the everyday-ness of life we lose track of the greater aim of this whole parenting gig. I mean, you don’t just want to raise kids. You want to raise confident, competent, compassionate adults. And you and I both know that doesn’t happen by accident.
That’s why I created this little space here. I’m Tracy Grossmann, mom of five, and my passion is to help you equip and inspire your kids to build purpose-filled lives, one ingredient at a time.
Here at PFK I hope you will find super-practical, actionable tools you can use to help your kids lead purpose-filled childhoods, and realize those old dreams of domestic bliss.
I use cooking as an analogy on this site, because it can parallel and connect many of the ideas I have swimming in these waters. But it is not a perfect analogy, of course. There are many pieces to the parenting puzzle that we do not control. But there ARE things that bright people have observed about this amazing (and puzzling!) human form of ours- and those are the things I want to empower you and your family with.
Some of the things I share here are tools and strategies that I have discovered on my own parenting journey- amazing wins that still floor me (clean rooms, without any nagging? Are you kidding me?) and simple training tactics that help me adore and delight (rather than fear) my two-year-old’s.
Other things I share here are discoveries and strategies traditionally aimed at adults, that ought to be available to our kids. (Why should our kids have to wait to learn about Pomodoro’s or how good eating a morning frog can be? Why should they wait to learn how to best wield the amazing tool that is their brain?). These are topics that I am discovering, implementing, and teaching right along with you, as my oldest kids start to take more initiative, responsibility, and ownership of their journey.
And in case you’re here to find out a bit about me, personally…
I’m a Northwestern girl, born and raised in the suburbs of Seattle, where the aromas of the ocean mingle with the coffee-filled air. I was an FBLA nerd who grew up loving people. During my college years, human resources was a natural line of study. I love to deconstruct and discover how people work; what makes them tick, what inspires, motivates, delights them. And so, though I wouldn’t have believed you if you would have told me 15 years ago, this parenting gig is a perfect place for me, as I get to observe, motivate, and inspire five small people whom I adore immensely. Ten years ago, I moved with my husband to a postage-stamp hobby farm in the middle of Iowa. I retained my love of coffee – which is a necessity as I home school my kids. My faith in God infuses all I do.
I am hopelessly addicted to Nutella and my husband claims I can make an “inspiring” loaf of bread. I adore baby belly laughs, pre-school perspectives, and big-kid imaginations. I listen to Ted talks while I wash dishes and education podcasts while I fold laundry. When I feel worn down, I fill up on a great conversation or a good Korean drama. My kids love running in freshly-harvested fields and building forts from scavenged “treasures.” Well…and devouring fresh cinnamon rolls…wild pig rides…smearing windows…the occasional mud fight…and just life at its fullest.
I’m really glad you are here, I can’t wait to get to know you.
